About Me
Hello, my name is Jocelyn Frierson. I grew up San Marcos, CA. I am the oldest of three children and have a younger sister and brother. Throughout my childhood, I enjoyed school and spending time with my friends and family. One of my favorite places to visit was, and still is, my grandparents ranch in Mexicali, Mexico. During my high school years, I found my passion of working with individuals with disabilities. At school I became president of Circle of Friends, a club that promoted the inclusion of individuals with disability into the school community. Within the community, I began volunteering with a local special needs basketball league.
After high school, I attended California State University, Fullerton to pursue a degree in Kinesiology with the hopes of becoming an Occupational Therapist for individuals with special needs. During my first semester at CSUF, I was hired as a Teacher’s Assistant in an Infant/Toddler developmental center. At that then I decided to change my major to Child and Adolescent Development. During my time at CSUF I joined an Autism awareness club, along with a social group for individuals on and off the Autism Spectrum. Being involved in those groups sparked my interest in research. I became a Research Assistant with the CSUF Center for Autism. Throughout my experiences in my coursework, extracurriculars, and leadership positions, I made the decision to pursue a career in special education. I graduated from CSUF with a B.S. in Child and Adolescent Development with a concentration in education and developmental disorders.
I am currently attending California State University, San Marcos completing my Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe credential and M.A. in Education. In my free time I enjoy watching competition reality shows (Survivor, Amazing Race, Big Brother), crime shows (Law & Order, Criminal Minds, and of course Grey's Anatomy. I also love spending time with my dog, Simba, baking, and crafting.
